Symposium Objectives:


Upon completion of the symposium, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify and describe the final products of the Berlin International Concussion consensus meeting.
  2. Identify the potential treatments for concussion based on existing evidence
  3. Discuss the importance of sleep on the recovery after concussion and describe ways to educate your patient on strategies to help with sleep.
  4. Understand the different profiles/subtypes/ deficits that can occur with concussion and know what activities can exacerbate the symptoms of each.
  5. Describe the evidence for and against cognitive rest and academic accommodations following concussion and discuss how they can be implemented when required.
  6. Identify athletes that have uncertainty of returning to play after experiencing a catastrophic injury.
  7. Discuss how to help these athletes use their emotions as a positive thrust to their performances.
  8. Discuss the current literature investigating concussion reporting behaviors.
  9. Explain the current state of evidence for PTPs (preventive training programs)
  10. Discuss the 7-steps for successful PTP (preventive training program) design and development and apply considerations and strategies for success to different sport settings for real-world implementation
  11. Discuss ways to make EBP a reality in your own athletic training room 



The AzATA is recognized by the Board of Certification, Inc. to offer continuing education for Certified Athletic Trainers.  A total of 6 Category A CEUs and 7 EBP Category CEUs will be available for those attending the entire duration of the meeting.  According to the education levels described by the PDC Committee of the NATA, the following continuing education course is considered to be Essential Level.

  • Membership will be verified online using the latest NATA/AzATA records.  Individuals whose membership lapses prior to the start of the Winter Symposium will receive an invoice at the time of check-in in the amount of the difference between member and non-member registration for the category and day/days for which he/she registered.
  • A fee of $10.00 will be assessed for any returned check.
  • Recommended meeting attire is professional dress.

Meeting Fundraisers


The meeting and events committee has organized two fundraisers to coincide with the Winter Symposium. 

On Friday evening, between 5:00pm and 9:00pm, 50% of proceeds from Chipotle (3039 W. Peoria Ave. #C-105) will be donated to the AzATA. (Flyer or Mention required).


On Saturday, between 12:00pm and 2:00pm, 20% of proceeds from Panda Express (59th & Olive) will be donated to the AzATA. (Flyer or Mention required). Also, Raising Cane's (2715 W. Peoria Ave.) will donate 20% of proceeds to the AzATA.
